Burnley's head of women's football Lola Ogunbote has left the club to pursue a new challenge.

What happened?

Ogunbote joined the club in 2021 and oversaw the women's side's progress, culminating in promotion from the Northern Premier Division last season. The Clarets will line up in Women's Super League 2, the second tier, next season for the first time in the club's history.

Why it matters for Burnley

As part of her role, Ogunbote worked across recruitment, player development, performance structures, and overall football operations. She will officially depart her role at the end of June. Lola Ogunbote said of her departure: “It has been an incredible privilege to serve as head of women’s football at Burnley Football Club over the past five years.”

What comes next?

While last season’s promotion was a crowning moment for the women’s side, winning the league without losing a game, it didn’t come without its problems. There was a turbulent campaign in many respects off the pitch, with Burnley going through four different managers during the season. Ross Wallace finished the season in interim charge and helped the Clarets get over the line. Alan Pace paid tribute to Ogunbote for her contribution to the women’s side: “On behalf of everyone at Burnley FC I would like to thank Lola for her outstanding commitment and leadership over the last five years.” As of 2026, Burnley's men's team stands 19th in the Premier League with 22 points from 38 games, having recently drawn 1-1 with Wolves on 2026-05-24.
