Burnley are ramping up their pursuit of Wales boss Craig Bellamy to take over as their next manager. Just over a fortnight after he publicly committed his future to Wales, fresh national reports indicate the Clarets have made contact with the Football Association of Wales regarding a potential move. Any deal would require compensation to be negotiated, with no agreement currently in place between the relevant parties. Burnley have been without a permanent manager since Scott Parker left by mutual consent in late April, with assistant Mike Jackson taking charge on an interim basis for the closing stages of their top-flight season. The North West outfit are no strangers to former Canaries trainee Bellamy, who spent two years as assistant to Vincent Kompany between 2022 and 2024. Following his departure from Burnley, he replaced Rob Page as Cymru boss in July 2024, signing a four-year contract that still has two years remaining. Despite missing out on qualification for this summer’s World Cup, the 46-year-old has retained the backing of the Welsh FA and previously expressed his desire to lead his country into Euro 2028 on home soil. Bellamy had also been tipped for the vacant Celtic job, but the Glasgow giants have since appointed former Norwich player and manager Martin O’Neill as their new permanent boss. It is not the first time Burnley have shown interest in the Dragons boss, and should he opt to take on the challenge of leading the Clarets back to the Premier League, it is reported he would quadruple his salary and fulfil his ambition of returning to day-to-day management. Iwan Roberts, Bellamy’s fellow countryman and former team-mate, does not believe a departure from the international set-up would be a significant blow for Wales. Burnley's pursuit of Bellamy is likely to be a long and complex process, with the club facing competition from other potential suitors. The Clarets will be hoping to appoint a new manager soon, with the start of the new season just around the corner. Bellamy's experience and knowledge of the game would be a major asset to the club, and his appointment would be a significant boost to their chances of returning to the Premier League.
