Burnley striker Michael Mellon has left Turf Moor to join League One Stevenage for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year-old forward spent last season on loan at Oldham Athletic, where he was the 10-goal top scorer despite having his campaign cut short by injury. Mellon, who played under his father Michael at Boundary Park following Oldham's return to the Football League, joins Boro' having spent six years with the Clarets. He made a name for himself in loan spells at Morecambe, Dundee, a promotion-winning spell at Bradford City, and most recently, Latics, where he scored 10 goals in 18 games, including two hat-tricks.
Why it matters for Burnley
Although Oldham boss Mellon would have loved to continue his working relationship with his son, with Burnley looking for a fee there was not enough room in the budget. Mellon had attracted interest from a number of clubs, with Plymouth Argyle understood to be among them, but he has penned a three-year deal at Stevenage. Burnley currently sit 19th in the Premier League with 22 points from 38 games, 63 points behind leaders Arsenal. They have scored 38 goals and conceded 75 this season, with a recent form of 0W-4D-1L. Their last result was a 1-1 draw against Wolves on 24 May 2026.
