Burnley have reportedly joined the transfer chase for Anel Ahmedhodžić, a defender linked with Sheffield United and Southampton. The 27-year-old spent three years at Bramall Lane, making 114 appearances for the Blades between 2022 and 2025. He left for Feyenoord last summer but has been linked with a move back to South Yorkshire with Sheffield United on the hunt for another body at centre-back.

Why it matters for Burnley
The Clarets are looking to strengthen their centre-back position, and Ahmedhodžić's experience and skills make him an attractive target. Burnley have been linked with several centre-backs this summer, but Ahmedhodžić's name has been mentioned as a potential target.
Burnley will face stiff competition for Ahmedhodžić's signature, with Sheffield United and Southampton also reportedly interested in the defender. The Clarets will need to act quickly to secure his signature, as the transfer window is set to close soon.
Burnley are currently 19th in the Premier League, with 22 points from 38 games. They have scored 38 goals and conceded 75, leaving them with a -37 goal difference. They are 63 points behind leaders Arsenal in the title race and have a next fixture against Watford at home on February 27, 2027.
The emergence of rival interest will only make a deal for Ahmedhodžić harder to do, even if he is familiar with the club. Sheffield United are not thought to have made a move for the former Bosnia & Herzegovina international, with the feeling being the club may have missed their chance.
Sheffield United fans brought his chant back out at the weekend as Chris Wilder’s men played out a goalless draw with Birmingham City. He said: “Well, he's a centre-half, apparently he’s available, he's got history with the football club. We're not just eyeing one player up. That's a dangerous game to play. So there's options out there, loan market and small fees, as we understand. We keep working on it and see what rocks up, but it's an area of the pitch that we need to strengthen if we're going to be competitive this year.”
Japhet Tanganga and Mark McGuinness were given the nod against Birmingham and both impressed against Birmingham’s talented attacking contingent. However, the Blades are not blessed with an embarrassment of riches in the centre of defence and could do with some more depth.
