Burnley lost a dramatic nine-goal Championship match 5-4 away to Cardiff on Saturday. The Clarets surrendered a 4-1 lead in a chaotic second half to suffer a defeat that leaves them 22nd in the league table with just 10 points from 14 games.
Andréas Hountondji opened the scoring for Burnley in the 15th minute, finishing a pass from Lucas Pires. Marcus Edwards doubled the advantage ten minutes later after good work from Jaydon Banel. Ollie Tanner pulled one back for Cardiff before the break, but Largie Ramazani restored the two-goal cushion ten minutes after half-time. An own goal from Cardiff's Alex Robertson then made it 4-1 to the visitors.
Cardiff's comeback began in the 65th minute through Yousef Salech. Jack Moylan converted a penalty ten minutes later to make it 4-3, and Salech completed his brace in the 82nd minute to level the scores. In the fourth minute of stoppage time, the same Alex Robertson who scored the own goal fired in a 30-yard winner to complete a stunning turnaround.
The statistics reflected a game dominated by Cardiff, who had 66% possession and 25 shots to Burnley's 15. The result extends Burnley's winless run in the league to five matches, a sequence that includes draws with QPR and Portsmouth and losses to Lincoln and Wolves. They have conceded 26 goals this season, the second-worst defensive record in the division.
Manager Fabio Celestini now must prepare his squad for a key Lancashire derby. With 18 points separating them from the top of the Championship, the need for a positive result at Turf Moor is urgent.
